Biomarker Discovery and Validation
A fundamental aspect of personalised healthcare is that laboratory tests can improve patient prognosis and predict response of individual patient treatment. Developing a biomarker alongside a new compound, which can be used for patient selection, will enable a reduction in size of a phase III trial by up to 50%. This can radically reduce costs and time to market. More importantly, the development of a companion diagnostic that allows correct targeting of the therapy to the right patients can greatly increase the treatments likelihood of commercial success.
