Drug discovery is a high risk activity. In the early stages of Almac Discovery we plan to balance the risk portfolio by incorporating different types of projects with different risk profiles. Longer term, we expect the internal target-finding activities to provide a pipeline of new opportunities.

Planned portfolio for Almac Discovery:

New drug discovery projects
We have in-licensed early stage discovery programmes in the areas of angiogenesis and targeted therapeutics. These projects are at the lead optimisation stage, and we are looking for more opportunities of this type. For details see in-licensing.

New development projects
The development projects are based on re-formulation, drug repositioning or rescue of known drugs in oncology.

Target/biomarker identification
One of the major goals of Almac Discovery will be to identify, validate and exploit novel targets in oncology by gene profiling and targeted cell-based screens, and to develop companion diagnostics and/or biomarkers to accompany potential new drug candidates.
