Almac is at the forefront of scientific research and development in a number of areas, including drug discovery and cancer diagnostics, putting Northern Ireland firmly on the global map in the fight against illness, particularly cancer.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) education supports the intellect behind the inventions that we bring to advance human health.

Work Experience Placements

Via our work experience placements we offer young people a fantastic opportunity to see for themselves what it is really like to work in an exciting industrial scientific environment.  We offer structured, informative and valuable work experience placements to AS and A-Level students across a range of disciplines and occupational areas. The placements run for three days and each placement has an allocated supervisor, a structured timetable and an evaluation process to ensure that the experience is of the highest standard. Please note that work experience placement opportunities are available across various areas of the business.  However in an attempt to address skills gaps within our workforce, priority will be given to students studying STEM subjects at AS and A-Level. Quote from a student on work experience with Almac:

“It showed me the kind of things that happen in a research lab—they had every day planned with something different for each day. The days were long and people were busy, but they always took time to explain what they were doing or what was going on. I am very grateful for the opportunity to go there.”

Quote from a parent of a student who did work experience at Almac:

“Adam really enjoyed the experience and was particularly inspired when working with Graham. Graham did everything possibly to ensure that Adam was made to feel welcome and inspired.”

STEM Pathways

We appreciate that it can be difficult for young people and their parents to understand the type of job opportunities that exist in the STEM arena, especially if they don’t personally know anyone working in this field. Therefore, we thought it may be helpful to introduce you to a few members of the diverse Almac team who have benefited from pursuing a STEM career.
