{"id":1726,"date":"2020-04-30T06:59:05","date_gmt":"2020-04-30T06:59:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.almacgroup.com\/diagnostics\/?page_id=1726"},"modified":"2020-04-30T07:00:20","modified_gmt":"2020-04-30T07:00:20","slug":"dr-nuala-mccabe","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.almacgroup.com\/diagnostics\/diagnostics-members\/dr-nuala-mccabe\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr Nuala McCabe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dr Nuala McCabe graduated from Queen\u2019s University Belfast in 1997 with an Honours Degree in Biomedical Science. &nbsp;She then gained her Ph.D. training in the Department of Oncology, Queen\u2019s University Belfast in 2001 investigating the role of the BRCA1 tumour suppressor in DNA damage response. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following this, she then worked as a post-doctoral researcher Prof. Alan Ashworth in the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre (Institute of Cancer Research, London). &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<span class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id6a677bc9f1e7f\"  tabindex=\"0\" title=\"Read More\"    >Read More<\/span><div id=\"target-id6a677bc9f1e7f\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During this time she was the involved in the identification of PARP1 inhibitors for the treatment of BRCA-associated breast and ovarian cancers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are now approved by the EMA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr McCabe joined Almac Diagnostic Services as Team Leader of Internal Research and is now Biomarker Research&nbsp;Manager. Within this role she has gained 8 years industrial experience in drug target identification and biomarker discovery. Dr McCabe has an honorary position at Queen\u2019s University Belfast and runs a team of both industrial and academic staff with a focus on the discovery and validation of biomarkers for clinical trials.
