Almac has been awarded with both the Best Large Business and Overall Excellence category awards at the 6th annual Aer Lingus Viscount Awards in London.

Run in association with Ulster Business Magazine, the awards are designed to honor companies which have forged vital economic ties between Northern Ireland and Great Britain as well as recognizing Northern Ireland’s best businesses across a wide spectrum of specialist areas.

The Best Large Business award recognized Almac as the most entrepreneurial large company, excelling in all functions of business by demonstrating significant commitment to producing and marketing its products and services and contributing to the NI/GB commercial relationship.

The award for Overall Excellence was presented to Almac in recognition of the company’s positive contribution and impact on the Northern Ireland economy, strong commercial performance, business growth and innovation in addition to its commitment to export excellence.

Both awards were presented to Almac’s VP Corporate Marketing, Doug Cookson, during an awards luncheon at the Royal Automobile Club in London.

As part of the award ceremony Dr Laura Hill, Almac’s Team Leader Clinical Bioinformatics, participated in a panel session alongside other Northern Ireland business leaders and award judges. Dr Hill discussed Almac’s remarkable progress over the past 12 months and explained how its continual innovation has enabled the company to achieve sustainable growth.

Doug Cookson, VP Corporate Marketing at the Almac Group, said: “We are delighted to have won two prestigious Aer Lingus Viscount Awards. It’s great to be acknowledged for the pioneering work our teams across the globe undertake and we’re proud to be recognized among the best of Northern Irish businesses.

“Our heart is very much based in Northern Ireland but our reach is truly global.

“Some of our notable achievements in the last year include significantly increasing our turnover to £300m, the development of a novel, state of the art, diagnostic test to assist in the treatment of breast cancer and enhancing our existing presence in Asia by starting the development of a new facility in Singapore and opening offices in Japan to further expand support for our customers.”

The awards come just one month after Almac picked up two category awards at the Belfast Telegraph Business Awards for Excellence in Innovation and Excellence in Technology in addition to being recognized at The Irish Laboratory Awards by winning “Laboratory Team of the Year” in December.
