Almac Group announces validated near and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
June 2, 2025
The Almac Group has received validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its emissions reduction targets. This milestone is another recognition of Almac’s commitment to sustainability and climate action in alignment with the latest climate science.
As part of its long-standing dedication to environmental stewardship, Almac has set robust targets aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions across its operations. These targets, now validated by the SBTi, are designed to support the global effort to limit temperature rises to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
Key targets include the following:
- Almac Group Limited commits to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by FY2045
- Near-term targets: Almac Group Limited commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 50% by FY2030 from a FY2019 base year. Almac Group Limited also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 27.5% within the same timeframe
- Long-term targets: Almac Group Limited commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 95% by FY2045 from a FY2019 base year. Almac Group Limited also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 90% within the same timeframe
Emissions reductions will be achieved through a comprehensive net zero strategy which includes a transition to renewable energy via a virtual Power Purchase Agreement (vPPA) with a local wind farm provider providing power for our Craigavon headquarters, energy efficiency programmes under ISO50001(a key standard in energy management and conservation) and sustainable procurement practices. Almac is also committed to transparent reporting via sustainability organisations and platforms. The validation of our reduction targets by the SBTi represents a key milestone in Almac’s net zero journey.
Niall Harkin, Executive Director, Almac Group said: “We are immensely proud to have our targets validated by SBTi. This validation reflects our rigorous approach to climate action and reinforces our commitment to making a measurable and positive impact on our planet. We are dedicated to driving sustainability throughout our operations and across the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors.“
