Human Rights Statement
Introduction
Human rights are the fundamental rights and freedoms to which all individuals are entitled without discrimination. At Almac we are committed to upholding and promoting the highest standards of human rights in all aspects of our business and operations, including throughout our supply chain.
Commitment to Human Rights
We are dedicated to adhering to the principles outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. Our commitment is rooted in the values of dignity, equity, and respect for all individuals.
Implementation
Policies and Procedures
We have established comprehensive policies and procedures to ensure that human rights are respected throughout our operations. These include:
- Non-Discrimination: We prohibit discrimination based on race, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic and actively work to eliminate discrimination in the workplace.
- Fair Labour Practices: We ensure fair wages, reasonable working hours, and safe working conditions for all employees and workers.
- Health and Safety: We prioritise the health and safety of our employees and workers, providing necessary training and resources to maintain a safe working environment.
- Respect for Workers’ Rights: We respect the rights of employees and workers in accordance with international standards.
- Elimination of Forced Labour: We are committed to the elimination of all forms of forced or compulsory labour.
- Abolition of Child Labour: We do not engage in or support the use of child labour.
Training and Awareness
We conduct regular training sessions for our employees and workers to raise awareness about human rights issues and our policies. This ensures that everyone involved in our operations understands their role in upholding these standards.
Monitoring and Reporting
Assessment
We regularly assess the human rights impacts of our business activities through internal audits and third-party evaluations. This helps us identify and address any potential risks or violations.
Reporting Mechanisms
We have established clear reporting mechanisms for employees, workers and other stakeholders to raise concerns about human rights issues. These include an anonymous hotline and a dedicated email address for reporting concerns and/or violations. We ensure that all reports are investigated promptly and thoroughly, with appropriate remedial actions taken, where necessary.
Stakeholder Engagement
Collaboration
We actively engage with our stakeholders, including employees, customers, suppliers, and the communities in which we operate. This collaboration helps us understand and address human rights issues effectively. We also participate in multi-stakeholder initiatives and forums to promote best practices in human rights.
Supply Chain Management
We require our suppliers to adhere to the same high standards of human rights that we uphold. We conduct regular audits and assessments of our supply chain to ensure compliance and address any issues promptly. Our suppliers are required to adhere to our Supplier Code of Conduct which mandates compliance with human rights.
Actions for Non-Compliance
If a supplier is found to be in breach of our human rights standards, we will take the following actions:
- Immediate Notification: Inform the supplier of the breach and request a detailed explanation.
- Corrective Action Plan: Require the supplier to develop and implement a corrective action plan within a specified timeframe to address the identified issues.
- Monitoring and Support: Provide guidance and support to the supplier to help them implement the corrective actions effectively.
- Follow-Up Audits: Conduct follow-up audits to ensure that the corrective actions have been implemented and the issues have been resolved.
- Consequences for Continued Non-Compliance: If the supplier fails to address the issues or continues to breach our human rights standards, we will take further actions, which may include suspension or termination of the business relationship.
Continuous Improvement
Review and Update
We are committed to continuously improving our human rights policies and practices. We regularly review and update our policies to ensure they remain effective and relevant in addressing emerging human rights challenges.
