Almac has developed a new platform called INSIGHT (IN Silico Informed metaGenomic Harvesting Technology ) with the support for research and development from Invest Northern Ireland under the European Union’s Investment for Growth and Jobs Programme.
With the increased attraction of biocatalysis as a sustainable alternative to traditional chemical synthesis, the need for shortened development times arises. Almac’s new INSIGHT platform has been specifically designed to reduce timelines and cost for development of specific and sustainable biocatalysts.

The new INSIGHT platform hosts metagenomic and bioinformatic enzyme discovery, high throughput screening, in silico enzyme engineering and machine learning to identify and engineer new biocatalysts. These techniques enable the development of more robust enzymes to displace multi-step chemical routes by simpler, low cost and greener enzymatic processes.
To expedite the INSIGHT platform, Almac integrates library synthesis into its multi-level enzyme engineering platform which shortens timelines and makes the accelerated development of genes-to-GMP more affordable.
The basic concept of INSIGHT is to improve the enzyme discovery process project initiation which shortens timelines for our customers. INSIGHT is composed of the following enzyme discovery pipelines:
