Fundraising at annual ‘Event in the tent’ raises £4500 each for Northern Ireland Hospice and Southern Area Hospice Services.

Two local charities are set to benefit from the generosity of Almac’s employees following this year’s ‘Event in the Tent’ celebration. The ‘Event in the Tent’, held annually, celebrates the company’s achievements during the year and is the highlight of the Almac social calendar. 1100 staff attended the knees-up which took place on Friday 18th September.

Each year Almac organise a raffle to which suppliers donate a range of top quality prizes which this year raised £9000 for Northern Ireland charities – the highest amount yet.

Elaine Gibson from the Almac Group presented cheques for £4500 each to Fiona Stephens from Newry-based Southern Area Hospice Services and Claire Brown from Northern Ireland Hospice at the company’s headquarters last week.

Elaine said: “This year’s event was our biggest yet and it is touching to note that even with the ongoing financial difficulties, those in the Almac family continue to give generously. This year’s donation totals £9000 which is the largest amount raised yet.”

Fiona Stephens from Southern Area Hospice Services said: “I am honoured to accept this cheque on behalf of Southern Area Hospice Services. We work to provide support and care to people with Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease and other terminal illnesses. These funds will enable us to provide the very best quality of life for our patients and their families.”

Claire Brown from Northern Ireland Hospice said: “I would like to thank all the staff at Almac for their fundraising efforts. This money will help us continue to provide specialist palliative care for those with life limiting and life threatening illness and their families. Our work is vital and we rely on voluntary contributions like this received today.”
