Dr Megan Smyth wins award for rising stars bringing fresh approaches in the pharma industry

Almac Sciences, a member of the Almac Group, is delighted to announce Dr Megan Smyth, Senior Team Leader, Custom & Flow Chemistry, has been recognised with the Future Leader award at the 2024 CPHI Celebration Awards.

The inaugural award, announced at The CPHI Celebration ceremony in Milan last night, recognises pharma leaders of the future who are bringing a fresh approach to the industry via evidence-based examples of leadership & collaboration, external recognition, personal brand and industry involvement.  For more than 20 years, the CPHI Pharma Awards have celebrated innovators making a difference – individuals, teams and companies who are breaking new ground and driving the industry forward.

Megan’s success was demonstrated through her role as Senior Team Leader within Almac Sciences’ Custom & Flow Chemistry team, where she has shown strategic leadership in the further development of Almac’s flow chemistry capabilities, including the establishment of a commercially viable manufacturing platform. Over the past five years, Megan has been an integral part of Almac’s flow team, generating revenue to meet ambitious growth targets, thus adding significant value to Almac’s business. The judges noted that Megan stood out as an emerging talent who had demonstrated the introduction of new ideas, inspired her colleagues and contributed to the broader industry through collaborations, conferences and scientific journals.

In 2022, Megan also won a highly competitive UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Future Leaders Fellowship (FLF). The R&D grant, worth £1.5 million, funded over a 4-year period, has been enabling further enhancement of innovative continuous manufacturing.

Megan commented: “I am thrilled to receive this inaugural Future Leader award from CPHI. To be globally recognised for my contributions to the pharmaceutical industry as a Future Leader is a huge honour. The implementation of flow chemistry continues to be hugely impactful within the pharmaceutical industry and I am excited to see what the future brings for me, my team and Almac Sciences.”

Prof Tom Moody VP Technology Development & Commercialisation added “Congratulations to Megan for winning this award. Megan is the most worthy recipient and has been instrumental to the growth of our flow chemistry expertise. A Future Leader award is a well deserved merit for all of her achievements to date and I wish her continued success at Almac.”
