Almac Diagnostic Services Expand NGS Capabilities for Clinical Trial Research
June 2, 2026
Almac adds Thermo Fisher Ion Torrent Genexus™ system to lab portfolio

Almac Diagnostic Services, part of the Almac Group, today announces further investment in its global Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) infrastructure to support biomarker driven clinical research.
This infrastructure expansion includes the addition of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Ion Torrent Genexus™ System, which supports the delivery of high‑quality genomic data for biomarker discovery and patient stratification in both early- and late-phase clinical trials. It also strengthens Almac’s targeted DNA and RNA sequencing offerings, reinforcing its position as a trusted partner for precision medicine.
Sponsors will now benefit from an integrated, end‑to‑end NGS workflow made possible by the Ion Torrent Genexus™ System, which combines library preparation, sequencing, data analysis and reporting within a single platform. Automation of key steps reduces manual handling and variability, helping to deliver consistent, high‑quality genomic data with faster turnaround times.
By expanding NGS capabilities within its laboratory, Almac Diagnostic Services further strengthens its ability to support global clinical trials from its existing multi-omic laboratories in UK / Europe and the United States. This latest investment reflects its ongoing commitment to expand its clinical trial solutions, supporting biopharmaceutical partners evolving needs for global technologies that enable biomarker‑driven, drug development programmes.
Michael Sloan, Global Vice President of Commercial Operations, Almac Diagnostic Services, commented:
“This investment further enhances our NGS capabilities for biopharma partners. The platform supports faster, more streamlined genomic testing while maintaining the quality, consistency and regulatory rigour required for clinical trial applications.
It forms part of our ongoing strategy to invest in technologies that help customers accelerate development and bring targeted therapies to patients sooner.”
