Almac Group grows by 150, exceeding 500 total headcount in Durham
August 30, 2023
Corporate investment and client demand leads to growth in headcount by more than a third in two years.
Almac Group, the global contract development and manufacturing organization, today celebrates that the company has exceeded 500 employees at its Durham, North Carolina location. This organic growth has led to 150 new employees joining the company since 2021, an over 30% increase in total headcount for the site.
Almac’s rapid growth in Durham is solely as result of inward investment and increased client demand for the company’s market – leading clinical and diagnostic services offered at the site. Since taking occupancy at the technology park in 2000, Almac has more than doubled capacity, now spanning four buildings on the campus totaling 150,000 ft2.
Almac is a privately owned, Northern Ireland – based company that re-invests all profits back into its business. The company has continued to demonstrate a commitment to the growth and stability of its North Carolina operations by launching a number of specialist capabilities for the Group at the site since its inception. These investments over the years have included significant capacity expansions for clinical supply services, the opening of diagnostic laboratory, the launch of an innovative temperature monitoring system for clinical supplies, and the addition of ultra-cold and Cryogenic clinical services capabilities to meet the demands of Advanced Therapeutic Medicinal Products (ATMPs).
As a further part of Almac’s commitment to the community, the past two years in Durham have also included ongoing and extended charitable partnerships with North Carolina A&T State University, Duke Children’s Hospital, No Kid Hungry NC, and the Triangle Community Foundation, among many others.
“We are thrilled to celebrate this corporate milestone in Durham, exceeding 500 employees,” said Donna Christopher, Global Vice President of Operations and lead of the Durham facility. “At Almac, we believe our people are our greatest asset— and it’s a testament to our meaningful work and culture that we have successfully retained and grown even among challenging times.”
“Our region here in Durham has exceptional talent, community partners and opportunities – and Almac is thrilled to continue our growth and commitment in this community. We look forward to the impact our work here will continue to have on our clients and patients globally,” she continued.
