Almac Group Moves to Number Five in Ulster Business Top 100 Companies List

2018/19 figures report turnover increased by £85M with 7% growth in global workforce

Craigavon, N.I., 20 Aug 2020 – Craigavon based Almac Group, the global contract pharmaceutical development and manufacturing organisation, is honoured to move up three positions to number five in this year’s Ulster Business “Most valuable businesses” table.

For the third consecutive year, the Group was also listed in a supplementary report detailing the “Most profitable companies in Northern Ireland”, and moved up from tenth place in 2019 to this year’s number eight.

The news comes as the Group’s figures for year ending 30 September 2019 reported a £85.4 million rise in turnover at £634.3 million with pre-tax profits recorded at £47.6 million, up from £27.6 million, while average global employee figures increased from 4,798 to 5,150 during the same period. Since these figures were published, much has changed in the pharmaceutical industry as a result of the impact of the current pandemic, however Almac continues to conduct its critical business operations across all its locations and is currently supporting over 80 separate crucial research programs to accelerate COVID-19 treatment.

The Ulster Business Top 100 list has showcased the performance of the biggest firms from right across Northern Ireland, ranked by turnover, for more than 30 years. The annual report is sponsored by A&L Goodbody and uses a combination of data sourced from both Dun & Bradstreet’s information database and Companies House.  It incorporates the results of Northern Ireland based companies, either Northern Ireland registered, or when a significant portion of their business is driven and transacted through the province.
