Almac announces upcoming Speaking Engagements on the Promise of e-Clinical Technologies

September 17, 2008. Yardley, PA. Almac Clinical Technologies has today announced details of a number of upcoming speaking engagements at leading pharmaceutical industry conferences. Fritz Haas, Vice President of New Products and Services, will be speaking on two panels next week at the Society for Clinical Data Management (SCDM) Annual Conference which takes place in Dallas. Marisa Ehinger, Director of New Products and Services, will be speaking at Informa’s Clinical Supplies & Packaging Summit which takes place from the 23rd to the 26th of September in Amsterdam.

At the SCDM Annual Meeting on September 22-24, Fritz Haas will be speaking on two topics:

“Using a Full Array of Technologies in Clinical Trials”

and

“EDC: Where Do We Go From Here?”

In his presentations, Mr. Haas will benchmark promises made ten years ago about the potential of electronic clinical technologies with actual performance in the ensuing decade. He will demonstrate that while clinical technologies have helped to improve productivity in clinical trials since 1998, their real potential has yet to be realized for a variety of reasons. To deliver on the promise, sponsors and suppliers need to listen more to the needs of users, simplify the user experience, enhance the power of applications, enhance data integration efforts, and move towards integration with electronic medical records.

Marisa Ehinger’s presentation on “The Use of Technology in Streamlining the Clinical Supply Chain” will address the promises that technology holds for improving R&D productivity by adopting new practices including adaptive trial designs, web drug reconciliation efforts, and drug pooling. She will discuss how Interactive Voice Response Systems have staged a revival and are now essential to implementing complex, global trials that are increasingly incorporating biomarkers, diagnostics, and other tools that help drive R&D productivity.

Fritz Haas said:

“I believe the industry has made tremendous strides in adopting e-clinical technologies, but has only begun to scratch the surface of realizing their true potential. To truly unleash the power of technologies in the clinical trials setting will require that both sponsors and suppliers move beyond simply adopting the basic applications and into the realm of sophisticated means of data integration across technologies. What has hindered that progression is the splintered nature of the e-clinical technologies industry, characterized by literally hundreds of suppliers that have developed, marketed and applied their products without observing important CDISC standards and practices. That has complicated full-scale data integration, which is the greatest promise that such technologies provide. Leading providers, however, which have survived the test of time and adhered more closely to standards are now primed to take e-technologies into the next stage of their evolution. So, it is a very exciting time at firms like Almac because we are striving to take technology to the next level.”
