As the Coronavirus outbreak escalated Almac’s business continuity plan moved into a further phase, with the following actions being taken:

  • Review of all staffing arrangements and shift patterns to ensure that Almac resource and capacity is maximized.
  • Introduction of social distancing, to include a reduction of face to face meetings.
  • Remote working for all employees where their role permits.

How has Almac Group responded to the global COVID-19 (Coronavirus) crisis?

Upon declaration by the World Health Organisation (WHO) of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) epidemic (now pandemic) in late January, Almac Group has been continually monitoring the situation relating to the global outbreak and its potential effect to our operations and employees, patients and clients.

That is why meeting client obligations is a fundamental priority to Almac, while ensuring the utmost safety in doing so for all of our employees.

The effectiveness of our Business Continuity Plan (BCP) processes have been continually monitored (and adjusted) to minimise any potential impact this pandemic would have to our worldwide operations.

Is Almac open and operating as normal?

We are following all local government guidance and best practice. As a qualifying essential business, we are operating across all our sites globally.

Will Almac remain operational?

Yes. Almac is at the forefront of the development, manufacturing, testing and distribution of essential medicines to vulnerable patients across the globe. By providing this support, Almac is recognised as an “essential” or “life-sustaining” business.

We can therefore confirm Almac will remain operational and our staff will be available to support your supply chain. We will continue to conduct our critical business operations and our facilities remain open.

How has Almac ensured its global employees remain safe?

Almac’s business continuity plans have been in place and enacted for some weeks and service levels have not been impacted. As a global business, we are proactive. To ensure the integrity of our supply and the safety of our staff, the following measures have been implemented:

  • Levels of movement throughout our buildings has been actively reduced.
  • Use of common areas such as staff canteens are being temporarily suspended and separation of team crossover between different operation shifts has been introduced where it is possible to do so.
  • Those employees who can, are now working from home.
  • Postponed non-essential group activities.
  • Suspended all employee business travel.
  • Comprehensive employee communications updated daily on global intranet to ensure current information is easily accessible.
  • Focus on utilizing technology to support virtual/remote meetings both internally and externally.
  • All employees have been issued with guidance on health & hygiene best practice and requested to report any symptoms associated with the virus immediately.
    • All of this has been done to ensure that we continue to offer our clients an uninterrupted and unhindered level of service.

If deemed “business critical”, can clients visit Almac’s facilities?

Access to Almac facilities is severely limited and we are currently restricting visitors on all our sites globally. Our employees are currently using alternative methods to conduct client meetings (i.e. virtual communication tools, videos etc.) whenever feasible. Should you wish to discuss a potential visit, please contact your Almac representative.
