Comparative trials offer a host of benefits, least of all the ability to demonstrate a study drug’s enhanced efficacy and tolerability compared with the best performing commercially available alternative. Unsurprisingly, comparator drugs and co-therapies are used in an estimated two-thirds of clinical trials and are widely considered a prerequisite for formulary listing and even successful licensure.
Before comparative trials can begin to pay dividends, sponsors need to create strong comparator sourcing strategies that safeguard timely, compliant and cost-effective supply to patients. this requires sponsors to select the best-fit sourcing strategy.
