Squalene Hopene Cyclase derivatives and use thereof for producing Ambrox

A squalene hopene cyclase enzyme was first discovered and later engineered to catalyse the cyclization of Homofarnesol to Ambrox, which is widely used as a fixative by the fragrance and perfume industry. For a reaction scale of 50g/L of substrate and 2.5% of enzyme loading the best variants show up to 142-fold improvement in activity over the WT enzyme.
