Almac ‘Event in the Tent’ raises £14,500 for Charities

October 4, 2010

Almac staff have provided a welcome boost for two charities with generous donations of £7,250 each.

The money was raised at the Almac Group’s annual ‘Event in the Tent’, which took place recently at the company’s headquarters in Craigavon. The beneficiaries were Macmillan Cancer and the NI Children’s Hospice who were delighted with the donations.

All parts of the organisation were well represented with over 1300 staff and management enjoying the traditional celebration with a three-course meal followed by entertainment.

The money was raised through a raffle with a range of great prizes including 2 return tickets to New York courtesy of Continental Airlines, a £1000.00 Holiday Gift Voucher donated by Elpro and 3 Apple iPad’s generously provided by donated by World Courier, DHL and Faubel.

Laura Johnston Community Corporate Manager, Macmillan said: “We are delighted to receive such a significant donation. This money will be used to support cancer patients in Northern Ireland. Macmillan receives no government funding and relies on the generosity of the public and so we would like to convey our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Almac for ensuring we continue to provide our caring services.”

Claire Brown, Corporate Fundraiser, NI Children’s Hospice said: “Almac have excelled yet again with their annual fundraiser and we are delighted to be have been selected again as a chosen charity. NI Children’s Hospice relies heavily on the support of Corporate NI and this generous donation will allow us to continue providing essential care to terminally ill children and their families across NI.”

Almac Chief Executive Alan Armstrong thanked staff at the event for all their effort during the previous year but particularly for their support after the loss of the Almac founder and Chairman Sir Allen McClay.

Alan Armstrong said: “This event is our first after the sad loss of Sir Allen McClay. We remember how he always enjoyed and valued this occasion as the gathering of the Almac family. The ‘Event in the Tent’ is our way of recognising the effort of our team and it is a tradition I know Allen was tremendously proud of.

Looking forward to next year he said: “The next 12 months will be very exciting for Almac. We have recently taken possession of our new North American Headquarters facility and are working well towards full operations commencing during the autumn”.
