The people – being surrounded by helpful, talented, friendly people makes the difference. Being part of a fantastic team makes the working day much easier.

What made you decide to pursue your current career?

I had been working as a self-employed contractor and wanted my next challenge. Having been in the industry for the past 10 years I wanted to make the move into management and Almac was the perfect place for me to do this. Almac’s repartition proceeds it – and having seen first-hand the working environment and how well the staff are looked after I would have to agree.

Describe your typical working day?

There is no “typical day”, we support over 5000 customers and staff so being flexible and dealing with any situation is part of the job. Typically we get together at the start of each day to discuss the biggest challenges facing us that day. Once everyone is on the same page we decide on a strategy and plan our day. This is then relayed to the other departments. With all that in mind we still have to be able to react to any situation or circumstances that may occur.

What is the best thing about your job?

The people – being surrounded by helpful, talented, friendly people makes the difference. Being part of a fantastic team makes the working day much easier.

And the biggest challenge?

Being new to the company and new to the pharma industry there was a learning curve that I had to overcome. Also integrating into an established team had its challenges. Learning the systems and protocols used in the industry and within Almac posed its own unique set of challenges which once learnt come as second nature now. The staff and teams made me feel welcome and a part of the organisation.

What advice would you give someone considering applying for a job with Almac?

Go for it – Having been a contractor for a number of years I moved between companies on fixed length contracts and would have seen the internal working of many different companies in multiple industries. With that none of them could match the quality of life that Almac can provide. Their facilities are second to none and the staff are well looked after and appreciated.

Outline your career to date within Almac

I joined Almac in July 2019 as the UK infrastructure team lead. Looking after a dedicated team of systems and networking engineers. Having established myself I look forward to a long career within Almac. From speaking to other members of staff there is genuine room for growth and promotion within the organisation.
