With Almac being a large, world-wide organisation there are careers and opportunities for everyone.
What made you decide to pursue your current career?
From a young age I always wanted a career in helping and supporting people, however I sort of fell into HR. I started out my working life in retail management and the part of the job I enjoyed the most (apart from the discount) was helping employees develop, succeed and making their working lives that bit more fulfilling and enjoyable. I also have a strong interest in business management, and the factors that make a business a success and a place where people want to work. Therefore when I teamed together my interest in business and supporting people I felt HR was a good fit.
Describe your typical working day?
I like the fact that no day is ever the same within my role and with the variety of work that comes in each day it keeps you on your toes. We work with everything from recruitment, training, employee wellbeing, performance, and employee relations etc.
A lot of work also goes in to the different initiatives, projects, continuous improvement and strategies e.g. Health & Wellbeing, so a percentage of my working days are spent collating data, researching and seeing what will work well for both the business and employees.
What is the best thing about your job?
This is easy – helping people! Whether this is helping employees develop, or helping an employee get back into the workplace, I love the opportunity of making employees lives better in the workplace.
And the biggest challenge?
Sometimes we have to deal with very difficult situations and deliver some hard news. This role definitely can be very emotive and it gives you the insight to the hardship that we can all face throughout our lives.
What advice would you give someone considering applying for a job with Almac?
